OCT for art and medicine

We developed novel techniques for non-invasive diagnostics of materials by means of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

The light source (the mode-locked Ti:sapphire oscillator of our amplified CPA system) has a bandwidth exceeding 100 nm and can thus provide a micron-level axial (depth) resolution.

Investigations have involved the non-invasive stratigraphic diagnostics of ancient paintings in close collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Group of INO-CNR and the “Opificio delle Pietre Dure” restoration facility of Florence.

In parallel, we developed an OCT device based on superluminescent diode sources for the biometry of interocular distances in collaboration with the CSO company.
